A Fork in the Path

Parenting can feel a lot like a walk through the proverbial garden with forking paths. You make countless decisions for your child, and any of them could end up being important in ways you can never predict.

Lately my three-year-old has been really into picking clovers. She’s always talking about them, so I have the word bouncing around in my head. This morning, I started singing “Crimson and Clover” under my breath, and she asked me what song I was singing. I decided to let her listen to it, so I did a quick search on the song title. The results fell into two categories. Tommy James and the Shondells on the one hand and Joan Jett on the other.

So which path to take my little girl down? The Shondell path? Or the Joan Jett path?

I’ll admit that I had to think about it for a second.

But only for a second…
